Main Protagonist
Meet America Singer, our main protagonist. She is known for being a fiery, musician from Carolina Province. Her most noticeable characteristic is her striking red hair. Throughout the book, she exemplifies a strong sense of justice. At first, America was initially reluctant to join the Selection because of her feelings toward her first love, Aspen. She decides to enter the competition for financial reasons for her family. Though the story she forms an unexpected connection with Prince Maxon. America's story is a powerful reminder to stay true to who you are, even when everyone around you seems to be pushing you to change. Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is just be honest about your beliefs.
Strengths: Standing up for others, maintaining her identity, challenging unjust issues

Crown Prince of Illéa
Prince Maxon Schreave is the Crown Prince, and he teaches us that being a leader isn't just about authority, it's about having strength and compassion. Even though he grew up with privilege in the castle, he tries to understand people from different backgrounds. Maxon reminds us that being genuinely curious about others and being willing to admit when you're wrong are super important for personal growth.

Aspen Leger
Royal Guard, Former Six
Aspen Leger, starts as a Six and later becomes a Royal Guard. He and America are romantically linked! He loves her, but knows if she is selected, she will have a better life than he can provide. He is also great example of determination and sacrifice. He faced tough circumstances growing up but never let that stop him from working incredibly hard to make things better. His story shows us that sometimes the most loving thing is to let someone go, and that real strength often means putting others' needs first.
Strengths: Self-sacrifice, strong work ethic, loyalty to family, adapting to new circumstances
Growth Areas: Overcoming pride, communicating feelings, accepting help from others
Life Lesson: Your worth isn't determined by your social status

Marlee Woodwork Tames
Selection Contestant
Marlee Tames, born a Four, was one of the Selection contestants and a good friend to America. They bond during their time at the castle. She teaches us about the courage it takes to follow your heart, even when it means going against expectations or facing consequences. Her story proves that the most difficult path can sometimes be the most rewarding. Marlee reminds us that real happiness often requires brave choices and that true friendship means sticking by someone, even when they mess up.

Queen Amberly
Queen of Illéa
The fourth Queen of Illéa, she is a kind hearted mother to Maxon. Even America couldn't resist her charm. Queen Amberly shows us that quiet strength and dignity are incredibly powerful, especially during tough times. Her story teaches us that being gentle isn't weakness. She shows that it often takes the greatest courage. The queen is an example of how to keep your compassion even when surrounded by harshness and how to find your own ways to make a difference, even within limiting situations.
Strengths: Maintaining kindness in difficult situations, she is very strategic about her influence, maternal love
Growth Areas: Standing up to injustice, using her voice more directly

King of Illéa
King Clarkson, the King of Illéa, serves teaches us about the dangers of caring more about power and control than about compassion and understanding. His character came off as very strict. People fear him and America is not fond of him. His character reminds us that pressure and fear can sadly be passed down through families. He shows that even people in charge are shaped by their own pasts and insecurities.
Strengths: Determination, strategic thinking, maintaining order
Growth Areas: Emotional intelligence, compassion, trusting others
Life Lesson: Power without compassion creates fear, not respect
